Fellsmere Elementary Principal Sesack honored for leadership

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Fellsmere Elementary School Principal Barry Sesack was recognized Tuesday evening at the School Board meeting with the 2009 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Principal.

Principal Sesack received the award to cheers and applause from a contingent of Fellsmere Elementary students, parents and teachers. He told the audience that 40 years ago he and his wife had had enough of the cold of Pennsylvania and decided to start looking for teaching work somewhere warmer.

They interviewed in the region and, on a whim, stopped in Vero Beach – at a time when the now-school district administration complex was the hospital.

They met with several members of the administration, all of whom made them feel more welcome than the last.

“We have no regrets,” Principal Sesack said of making the move to Indian River County. “It’s been a great journey.”

He said parents, teachers, students and school leaders should be proud of what they have here in the district.
