John J. ‘Jack’ Galvin III, 72, Vero Beach

John J. “Jack” Galvin III, 72, died April 9, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 19 years, coming from Sleepy Hollow, Ill.

He had an associate’s degree from Westchester Community College, Valhalla, N.Y. He was employed by Allstate Insurance Co. for 26 years and retired in 1991 as director of commercial claims. He served for two years in the Army.

He was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, serving for the past 10 years as music and choir director, Head Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister and past president of the Parish Council. He was a member of Knights of Columbus; and the Notables, a singing group in Vero Beach.

He also served as vice president and president of the Countryside South Homeowners Association.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Anne Galvin of Vero Beach; son, Jack Galvin of Huntley, Ill.; daughters, Pat Bernhard of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Regina Muscat of East Dundee, Ill.; brother, James Galvin of Glenham, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terrance Galvin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, FL 32966.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. April 13 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. April 13 at the church.

Interment will be in Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee.
