Deacon Eddie David Brock, 74, Vero Beach

Deacon Eddie David Brock, 74, died April 5, 2010, at Sebastian River Medical Center.

He was born in Jonesboro, Ga., and lived in Indian River County since the 1950s. He was educated in the public schools of Jonesboro and Indian River County. Before retirement, he was a truck driver for the citrus industry.

He was a member of the Wabasso Church of God under the pastorate of Bishop John A. Thorne and served as a deacon, former assistant pastor, Sunday school teacher, presided over noonday prayer, a member of the Men’s Fellowship, chairperson and organizer of the Ministry of Helps and the “official taxi cab provider” in the Wabasso and Gifford communities.

Survivors include his wife, Aretha Eldell-Brock of Wabasso; daughters, Cheryl Brock-Williams of Sebastian, Veronica Brock-Smith of Lauderhill, and Sylvia Jean Brock of Wabasso; brother, John Christian Brock, Jr. of Newburg, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. April 9 at the Wabasso Church of God.

A home going celebration will be at 11 a.m. April 10 at the church with Bishop John A. Thorne, pastor/officiating. Burial will follow in West Wabasso Cemetery in Wabasso.
