5 store clerks cited in undercover bust for selling alcohol to a minor

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Store clerks at businesses in Sebastian and Vero Beach will have to appear in court after the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office caught them selling to a minor working undercover for authorities.

The undercover operation was held Wednesday and netted five store clerks from two gas station/convenience stores, two grocery stores, and a liquor store. “Accidents involving underage drinking are one of the most prevalent causes of injury and possibly death to our youth today,” Sheriff Deryl Loar said in a prepared statement. “We are continuing our efforts to eliminate underage drinking and we have a zero tolerance policy in Indian River County.”

James Ross at 726 Fleming St., Sebastian;

Sunil Khambhati at 4315 20th St., Vero Beach;

Linda Deberry at 810 US 1, Vero Beach;

Diane Bofelos at 13435 US 1, Sebastian;

Sandra Thomas at 1925 43rd Ave., Vero Beach
