Indian River Assn. of Fundraising Professionals wins award

VERO BEACH — Congratulations to members of the Association of Fundraising Professionals FL, Indian River Chapter.  The AFP put its first Chapter Incentives Program into place in 2005 and for those chapters who will be awarded the Chapter Ten Star Award at the 2010 International Conference in Baltimore, an analysis was done on the highest percentage of growth and retention for 2009 as well as the highest percentage of growth and retention over the prior three years for each like size chapter grouping.

The AFP FL, Indian River Chapter has won the 51-100  member Chapter Grouping category for highest three-year Growth with 69.4% and highest three-year Retention with 81.9%.  The Chapter will be recognized at the Chapter Presidents Council meeting on Sunday, April 11, 2010 in the Baltimore Convention Center.  For these two awards the chapter will receive $2,000.

Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Protecting the environment remains a high priority for the Pelican Island Audubon Society. On Monday night, the agency recognized several individuals for helping to conserve wildlife and protect natural habitats.
