Georgiana ‘GeGe’ Joy, 96, Vero Beach

Georgiana “GeGe” Joy, 96, died April 1, 2010, at Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee.

She was born in Warren, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for 58 years, coming from Punxsutawney, Pa.

She was a graduate of Highland Hall, Hollisdayburg, Pa., attended William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Va., and graduated from Katherine Gibbs in New York City.

She was a member of AARP, Dodgertown Golf Club and the Vero Beach Bridge Club. She also was a volunteer for the Council on Aging Thrift Shop and the Trinity Treasure Thrift Shop. She retired after 20 years with the Indian River County Health Department as chief clerk and deputy registrar.

Survivors include her son, Davis B. Denton of Clarkston, Ga.; daughters, Margot Bartell-O’Neill of Loxahatchee and Susan Bowles of Vero Beach; stepdaughters, Virginia Choupek of Colorado and Phyllis Lange of Illinois; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Joy; and her first husband, David A. Denton.
