WABASSO — Florida is extremely susceptible to the effects of sea level rise which may drastically impact the state’s ecosystems and human population. Dr. Reed Noss, Professor of Conservation Biology at the University of Central Florida, will bring life to the sea rise issue and its effect on biodiversity with a talk at the Environmental Learning Center at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 7. His presentation is part of the lecture series given by noted environmentalists, and sponsored by the Environmental Learning Center.
Dr. Noss directs the SPICE (Science and Planning in Conservation Ecology) lab at the University of Central Florida, which concentrates on basic and applied problems in biodiversity conservation. In 1988 he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Wildlife and Range Sciences.
The focus of Dr. Noss’s research program for the last two decades has been on systematic conservation planning at regional to continental scales. He has designed and directed such studies in Florida, the Pacific Northwest, California, the Rocky Mountains, and several regions of Canada. His lecture promises to provide valuable insight into the challenges to Florida’s environment and suggest the management policies, approaches, and techniques needed to maintain our biodiversity and ecological values over time.
