Doris E. Hughes, 84, Vero Beach

Doris E. Hughes, 84, died March 14, 2010, at the Port St. Lucie Nursing and Restorative Care Center.

She was born in Bonham, Texas, and lived in Vero Beach since 1944, coming from Farmersville, Texas. She was a licensed beautician and owned The Powder Puff, Jamies and the Patio beauty salons.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include her daughter, Deanna Kay Hughes of Palatka; son, Stephen Carter Hughes of Vero Beach; sisters, Gladys Moore of Wilson, Texas, and Naomi Burkhalter of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Gary Smalley of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hughes; son, James Marvin Hughes; and seven brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Support Group, 2207 18th Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. March 16 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. March 17 at the funeral home with the Rev. Derek West of the First Baptist Church officiating.
