Clint S. Malone Memorial Fund to Award Teacher Grants

VERO BEACH — The Education Foundation of Indian River County is pleased to announce the receipt of a $5,000 grant from the Clint S. Malone Memorial Fund of the Indian River Community Foundation.  These grant dollars will be used to provide classroom and school-wide grants.

The grants will honor the memory and legacy of the late Clint S. Malone.  Mr. Malone was tragically killed by a drunk driver on October 13, 2007 while riding his bike next to his wife Jennifer in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Mr. Malone had a great passion for education.  He loved to read, to write and excelled in mathematics.  He was also enjoyed being physically active.  Golf and swimming were a few of his favorites.  Mr. Malone also believed that the key to success was to have confidence in one’s self and to develop strong social skills.

The Education Foundation will offer the Clint S. Malone Memorial Grants under their Great Ideas! Grant Program.  Public and private, primary and secondary schools, may apply for Quick Response Grants, up to $500 or for Reach Grants, up to $2,500.

The grant guidelines and applications are available on the Education Foundation website: www.edfoundationirc.org. All proposals are due by Monday, April 12, 2010.

Will school board comply with DeSantis’ order on prohibiting mask mandates?

What happens if elected bodies like the Indian River County School Board don’t comply with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order prohibiting them from passing mask mandates or restrictions on the unvaccinated? The month-long spike in COVID-19 cases in Indian River County apparently has been too mild for state or county education officials to consider requiring face masks and/or vaccinations for the school year that starts August 10.
