Poker Run to benefit Homeless Family Center

VERO BEACH — Mark your calendar for Sunday, March 21 for the annual Motorcycle Poker Run hosted by the Fiasco Brothers Motorcycle Club to benefit the Homeless Family Center.  The Poker Run is set to start and end at the Club House Grill located at 4000 Atlantic Blvd. in Vero Beach.  Rain or shine the bikers will leave from 10 to 11:30 a.m., making six stops throughout Indian River County.  The last bike in is at 3 p.m.

This event attracts approximately 400 to 600 motorcycle enthusiasts and will feature vendors, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, food, and music.  Trophies will be awarded to the best, second best, and worst poker hand.  Entry fee is $10 per person, which includes an event T-shirt for the first 200 entries.

Come and join all motorcycle types on this exciting day while supporting homeless families.  Please bring wish list items that the Homeless Family Center needs at the event such as toothpaste, body and hand soaps, deodorant, paper towel, toilet paper, and laundry detergent.

Motorcyclist charged after leading deputies on high-speed chase

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A motorcyclist who officials said led deputies on a high-speed chase - more than 100 mph - while driving into oncoming traffic and ignoring traffic signals, was jailed Monday. 1 dead in vehicle versus motorcycle crash; U.S. 1 northbound reopen

Update: U.S. 1 northbound reopened by 10:30 p.m. Thursday after being closed following a fatal vehicle versus motorcycle crash, Vero Beach police said. Earlier story: VERO BEACH — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle late Thursday, leading police to block northbound U.S. 1, officers said. The wreck involving the vehicle and a motorcycle happened about 6:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of U.S. 1 near BigShots Golf Vero Beach, police spokesperson Master Officer Darrell Rivers said. Further details on the person killed and the other vehicle involved were not immediately available. Police released limited information since the person's next of kin has not yet been notified. Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." The Vero Beach Lifeguard Association recently released its monthly report for the beaches at Jaycee Park, Humiston Park and South Beach Park. Lifeguards said about 54,105 beachgoers flocked to the shore in January. The highest beach-attendance record of 65,700 was set in 2019 for Vero Beach, lifeguards said.
