Mildred ‘Booty’ Lideen, 89, Vero Beach

Mildred “Booty” Lideen, 89, died March 6, 2010, in Vero Beach.

She was born in Wilson, N.C., and lived in Vero Beach since 1983, coming from Rye, N.Y. She attended Salem College, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Atlantic Christian College, Wilson.

She was a member of the Vero Beach First Presbyterian Church, Hawk’s Nest Golf Club, The Moorings Club and the Westchester Country Club, Rye.

Survivors include her son, Robert Nelson Lideen of Hollywood; sister, Julie Ann Hahn of Versailles, Ky., and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Paul N. Lideen; and brother, Hal Curtis Hutcherson of Canada.

Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. Interment will be in Wilson. A guest book may be signed at strunkfuneralhome.com.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
