Hibiscus Festival to make sweet music

VERO BEACH — The 2010 Hibiscus Festival will be held in historic downtown Vero Beach from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.  The City of Vero Beach is the presenting sponsor for the event which benefits Main Street Vero Beach and Vero Heritage Inc.

The Festival takes place along 14th Avenue between 21st and 23rd Street, 21st Street between 13th and 15th Avenues and inside the Vero Beach Community Center and the Heritage Center. Exhibitor booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with endless entertainment and activities after which the party shifts to the 14th Avenue Downtown Friday block for a special 60’s Party featuring a Beatles Tribute Band.

Marine Bank is sponsoring the outstanding day time Festival entertainment, featuring 12 live musical acts.  Some of the best musicians on the Treasure Coast will perform a selection of vocal harmony, pop, jazz, rock, country and overall cool music.  Beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing through 5:30 p.m. at separate areas along 14th Avenue, you’ll hear lively music from a number of different acts performing simultaneously throughout the festival area.  These talented street musicians hope to bring the tradition of “Buskers,” complete with tip jars, to downtown Vero Beach.

When the daytime festival ends at 5:30 p.m. the 60’s Hibiscus Festival Street Party begins one block south on the 14th Avenue Downtown Friday block.  A $2 admission is required for admittance to the street party to help defray expenses. The crowning glory for the evening will be a 1960’s Beatles Tribute and British Invasion Band returning by popular demand, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  Sponsored by Bill Bryant & Associates, “Beatles Remembered” was an instant hit at last year’s Hibiscus Festival Street Party.  At band breaks, the festival will introduce singer/songwriter Austin McLaughlin from Nashville, TN.
