Hibiscus Festival extends Juried Fine Art Show deadline

VERO BEACH– The Hibiscus Festival Committee is inviting fine artists to participate in the Hibiscus Festival Annual Juried Fine Art Show which will take place on Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The deadline for applications has been extended until April 5.  The first applications received will be the first to receive space assignments so early submissions are encouraged.  A registration form with pertinent information may be found at www.mainstreetverobeach.org.  For Juried Art Show questions, call Lee Orre at 772.538-0959

The annual Hibiscus Festival attracts over 15,000 people of all ages. The Art Show will be located on 22nd Street between the Courthouse Executive Center and The Hibiscus Building. Live music and an Opici Wine Bar will be located at the entrance to the Show, on the corner of 14th Avenue and 22nd Street.

The annual Hibiscus Festival begins on Friday evening April 16 with the Miss Hibiscus Pageant.  Festival day and the evening street party are on Saturday, April 17.  The Festival supports the efforts by the two benefiting sponsors Main Street Vero Beach and Vero Heritage, Inc. The City of Vero Beach is the Presenting Sponsor.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
