Barbara Burns Faville, 80, died of cancer in Vero Beach on Feb. 28, 2010.
Mrs. Faville was born in Evanston, Ill., on July 4, 1929. She was raised in Winnetka, Ill., and was a 1951 graduate of Smith College.
She spent most of her life in Washington D.C. where she pursued careers in both the professional and volunteer worlds.
Professionally she worked at the White House under both Dwight D. Eisenhower and L.B. Johnson; she assisted Roger L. Stevens in funding the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; she served as Personal Secretary for Senator Jacob K. Javits and Assistant to the Chairman of the Republican National Committee; she was appointed to the jobs of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Consumer Services (HEW) and Assistant to the Secretary for International Affairs (Department of the Interior) under President Nixon. She was a founding member of the Executive Women in Government.
As a volunteer Mrs. Faville served as an officer and member of the boards of the Women’s Committee of the Smithsonian, the Sulgrave Club, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the District of Columbia, The Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services and formerly the Washington Junior League.
She worked for many years on the Washington Antiques Show.
In 2005 she married her college sweetheart, William Alden Faville, and moved to Vero Beach.
She is survived by her stepchildren, William A. Faville, Jr. (Marge) and Andrew M. Faville (Julia).
Interment will be at St. John’s Church of Lafayette Square in Washington D.C. Services will be private.
