Birth Doula training coming to Vero Beach March 19-21

VERO BEACH — A DONA International birth doula training will be offered In Vero Beach March 19-21, at Midwife Love, a new homebirth/gynecology practice in Vero Beach.

DONA International is the oldest and largest doula association in the world. This international, non-profit organization supports doulas by providing quality training and certification.

Doulas are professionals who provide emotional, physical, and informational support to women and childbearing families before, during and after birth.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, researchers found that women who had used doulas had shorter labors, less interventions, and fewer cesarean surgeries. Recent research shows women who had doula support also have increased rates of breastfeeding, more positive mother-infant relationships and greater satisfaction with their birth experience.

Continuous emotional support from a doula for laboring women is becoming an essential component to improving the quality of maternity care and increasing satisfaction with birth services.
