John J. Ehlinger, 92, Vero Beach

John J. Ehlinger, 92, died Feb. 27, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Utica, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 25 years, coming from Syracuse, N.Y.

He was a graduate of Syracuse University and was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He retired from the former Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. after 46 years.

He was a founding member of the Utica chapter of the Nocturnal Adoration Society in 1939; a member of the Utica chapter of the Knights of Columbus; and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Anne M. Ehlinger of Vero Beach; sons, John J. Ehlinger Jr. of Radnor, Pa., Thomas M. Ehlinger of Toledo, Ohio, Mark J. Ehlinger of New York City and Gregory F. Ehlinger of Columbus, Ind.; daughter, Mary Anne Winchell of Oak Hill, Va.; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. March 3 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Utica. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book may be signed at strunkfuneralhome.com.
