Police on patrol to ticket those who don’t click it

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — State and local law enforcement agencies will be out on Indian River County roads starting March 1 as they launch the annual Click It or Ticket Florida program.

The statewide enforcement initiative is geared at increasing seatbelt usage and will continue through March 15. More than 42,000 people lose their lives each year in motor vehicle crashes in the United States, according to Vero Beach Police Department officials. More than half of all passenger vehicle occupants killed were not wearing a seat belt, and more than 7,000 of them were young drivers between the ages of 16 and 20. Additionally, more than 13,000 people die in alcohol related crashes every year.

Research shows that regular safety belt usage is the single most effective way to protect motorists and reduce fatalities in vehicle crashes.
