ALL ABOUT PETS: Spay Day USA is here

We hope you’ll come to the shelter on Tuesday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. to participate in Spay Day USA. It’s a national campaign created by the Doris Day Animal League to encourage people to spay and neuter their animals.

We’ll be offering 23 spay/neuter vouchers for $23. Even if you can’t make it to the shelter on Tuesday, we offer low-cost spay/neuter vouchers every day of the year.

Spaying and neutering is the single most important thing that you can do to help the animals in our community. It can prevent certain forms of cancer, reduce aggression, spraying or “leg lifting” and, of course, prevents unwanted animals from being born.

We understand that most people don’t realize how serious the problem of pet overpopulation is in our nation. If you allow two unsterilized dogs and their offspring reproduce you could have up to 67,000 dogs in just six years. For cats the numbers are mindboggling: two unsterilized cats and their offspring have the potential to produce up to 420,000 cats in seven years.

So if you’ve been thinking about getting your animal spayed or neutered, now is the time to do it. Just call us at (772) 388-3331 ext. 10.

We look forward to seeing you!

Janet Winikoff, Director of Education The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River Co. 6230 77th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32967 (772) 388-3331 ext. 18
