Vera Jane Osborne, 89, Vero Beach

Vera Jane Osborne, 89, died Feb. 6, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.

She was born in Greencastle, Ind., and lived in Vero Beach for six years, coming from Inverness. She was a homemaker and member of the Women of the Moose. Survivors include her daughter, Deanna J. Atwell of Vero Beach; son, Gary A. Osborne of Crystal River; brother, Jack Sears of Greencastle; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Kenneth Osborne; brothers, Gilbert, Eugene and Don Sears; and sisters, Eva Eggars and Irene Sears.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.

Private family services will be in Vero Beach and Greencastle.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Sears announces mass closures, including Indian River Mall

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Struggling retail giant Sears will close more than 20 stores nationwide later this year including its location at the similarly faltering Indian River Mall. The retailer’s parent company announced Tuesday it will shutter 26 Sears and Kmart locations — including two in Florida — this fall after seeing experiencing “a number of challenges returning our stores to sustainable levels of productivity,” including a weak retail environment.
