From free food to cash prize, eateries hope for super score on Sunday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Does sitting at home with your tiny TV and paltry bowl of potato chip crumbs have you less than enthused about the Super Bowl game Sunday? Why not enjoy food, drink specials and giveaways at any one of a number of bars and restaurants that are hoping the big game draws big crowds?

Interestingly, VeroNews.com has not found one establishment that is hailing itself as the home away from home for Indianapolis Colts fans or the Who Dat? crew of the New Orleans Saints. “That’s going to be a tossup,” said Justin Hamilton, an employee at the V.B. Sports Grille in Vero Beach. He added – and others agreed – that their customers had been hoping the Minnesota Vikings would have made to the Super Bowl.

“It was a big disappointment” the Vikings didn’t win, said Michele Wygand, a manager at Mr. Manatees in Vero Beach.

Whether their sentiments translate into more support for the Colts remains to be seen.

“Personally, I’m pulling for the Colts,” said Angela Phillips, a manager at Filthy McNasty’s in Vero Beach.

Joe Grover, of Cunningham’s Pool and Darts, in Vero, said that most of their customers are Pittsburgh Steelers and Vikings fans, so it’s hard to figure which teams they would choose to root for.

While the team loyalties seem mixed, one thing is certain — all the following eateries and watering holes plan to pack the fans in with food and drink specials, giveaways, door prizes and one plans a large cash drawing paid to the customer who accurately guesses the final score.
