Bertram E. Green, 85, Vero Beach

Bertram E. Green, 85, died Jan. 30, 2010 at Consulate Health Care of Vero Beach.

He was born in Ironton, Mo., attended Michigan State and lived in Vero Beach for 36 years coming from Lansing, Mich.

Mr. Green was employed with AT&T until his retirement and then owned his own business as a Telecommunications Consultant.

He served as a pilot with the US Navy during WW II.

He attended the Treasure Coast Assembly of God and Central Assembly in Vero Beach and volunteered in Jail Ministries, Nursing Home Ministries, School Mentor Programs and at The Source.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Elisa Gibbons Green of Vero Beach, daughters, Glenna Michela Green of Lansing, Mich., Linda Baltos of Morganton, Ga., Lisa Overholt of New Hope, Penn., brothers, Theodore A. Green of Lansing, Michael E. Green, of Texas, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his brother Robert Green.

Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. on Feb. 8, 2010 at Treasure Coast Assembly of God, 3660 16th Street, Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
