Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Bennett, 82, Vero Beach

Dorothy “Dottie” Bennett, 82, died Jan. 10, 2010, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

She was born in Philadelphia and lived in Vero Beach, coming from California and Austin, Texas. She was a real estate investor and broker.

Before retiring, she owned and operated Beachside Realty on South Beach. She also owned and operated the Pelican Cove Motel and Mrs. B’s.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Taylor and Lois Whittle, both of Vero Beach; son, Richard Strouse of Vero Beach; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick V. Bennett.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice House, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
