Police searching for robber who hit 7-Eleven, Walgreens

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach police are searching for a man they say has robbed the 7-Eleven on 43rd Avenue and the Walgreens on US 1 earlier this week.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday, the police department responded to the 7-Eleven located at 1976 43rd Ave. The store clerk said that the suspect approached her while she was stocking shelves and asked to purchase some cigars. When the clerk went behind the counter, the suspect told her to give him all the money from the register while he hid his hand in a pocket implying he had a gun, the clerk told investigators.

The clerk handed the man an undisclosed amount of cash and the guy left, she said.

Not quite 20 minutes later, the police department responded to another robbery, this time at the Walgreens located at 1705 US 1.

The clerk told investigators that the suspect approached the front counter and told the clerk to open the cash register by the time he counted to three.

Like the previous case, the suspect looked down at his pocket and acted as though he had a weapon, police said.

When the clerk refused to open the register, the would-be robber said he was “just kidding,” the clerk told investigators.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt or jacket and black gloves.

Anyone having information related to the robberies is asked to contact the Vero Beach Police Department by calling (772) 978-4604.
