VERO BEACH — The United Way of Indian River County (UWIRC), the Senior Resource Association and Florida Eye Institute  today announced the successful end of the Santas for Seniors Holiday Gift Drive and announced that their goal to FILL THE BUS has been achieved. The community filled the bus and provided over 400 seniors in need with care packages for the holiday season.”What a true blessing it is to live in a community so generous,” said United Way Director of Workplace & Corporate Giving and Santas for Seniors founder Jennifer Jones. “This allows us to provide a little holiday cheer to those who otherwise might not receive much.”

In recognition of the growing numbers of seniors living on a fixed income, the program significantly expanded during the 2009 holiday season.  he Senior Resource Association donated time on a SRA Community Coach and the organizers set a goal to FILL THE BUS with unwrapped presents for seniors in need. “We more than filled it!!!” exclaimed Jones.

“Santas for Seniors is a great program that helps out so many seniors in need in this community,” stated FEI’s Val Zudans, M.D.

Several other area businesses participated this year, encouraging their employees to join in the gift drive. Among those businesses are: Piper Aircraft, CVS/pharmacy, Stewart and Evans, and the IRC Clerk of Courts.
