Secretary of the Interior to visit Pelican Island

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will visit Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday to dedicate a new section of the Refuge’s Centennial Trail and take a kayak tour of the refuge.

Secretary Salazar will use the visit to highlight his concern how climate change threatens refuges and wildlife habitat across the nation. Pelican Island was established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903 as the nation’s first National Wildlife Refuge, anchoring what has become the world’s preeminent network of protected areas for wildlife.
