Howard Ray Grimes, 91, Vero Beach

Howard Ray Grimes, 91, died Nov. 17, 2009, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. He was born in Manilla, Iowa, and lived in Vero Beach for eight years, coming from Waterville Valley, N.H. He served in the Army Air Forces as a pilot during World War II. He was co-founder of Benefit Services Inc. in Wellesley, Mass., and was a member of Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church, Moorings Club in Vero Beach, Bald Peak Colony Club in Moultonborough, N.H., and the Weston Golf Club in Weston, Mass. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Nancy Palmer Grimes of Vero Beach; daughters, Patricia Sava of Merida of Yucatan, Mexico, Susan Funk of Ipswich, Mass., Nancy Grimes of North Brookfield, Mass., Sally Barron of Birchrunville, Pa., and Laurie Douglass of Lake Forest, Ill.; stepdaughter, Dr. Debra DeMuth of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Bergren Grimes. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 29 at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dawn E. Reichard officiating. Interment will be at Waterville Valley Cemetery in New Hampshire this summer. Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
