Auditions scheduled for The Sound of Music

VERO BEACH — Open auditions for The Sound of Music, a Rogers and Hammerstein musical, will be held Dec. 1, 6 and 7 at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, 2020 San Juan Ave.

Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. – Open to all ages 16 and up for singing and reading;

Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. – Children only, ages 7-15 for singing, reading and dancing;

Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. ages 16 and up will audition for singing* and reading;

Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. is for call backs only.

An accompanist will be available at all the singing auditions.

The cast will include eight women, ages 16-70; ten men, ages 17-70; and six children, ages 7-15. A nuns’ ensemble will feature 15 women, ages 17-75.  Smaller women’s roles will be cast from the ensemble.  The director is Tony Della Rocca and the casting chair is Sarah Morley.

Synopsis: Maria, a postulant in a Salzburg Abbey is assigned to be the governess for the Von Trapp family, a brood of seven children helmed by Capt. von Trapp, a widowed naval officer who educates his children with military discipline. The captain becomes charmed by Maria’s contagious and buoyant generosity. The story is one of courage, the power of music and love, and the restoration of faith.
