Free community Move for a Cure day event

VERO BEACH — The Isles of Vero Beach will host a free community Move for a Cure day to support the American Cancer Society, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, November 21. Radio station 97.1 AM will broadcast live from the event from 10 a.m. until noon.

Fabulous door prizes will be given out all through the event (you must be present to win) – you could walk away with a free cruise for two, a 32″ flat screen TV, tickets to Riverside Theatre, the Kings Center in Melbourne and the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce.  Free turkeys just in time for the holidays, and other prizes will be given away every 10 minutes.

Vendors will be on hand to provide free blood pressure screenings, massages, demonstrations and samples.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Deputies continue investigation in VLE homicide, suspect found dead in Sunrise

SUNRISE, FLA. – Deputies continue to investigate a woman's death after her husband, the homicide suspect, was found dead in a car earlier this week in Broward County, authorities said. Deputies confirmed Monday that the body of Pedro Torres, the man they believed killed his wife over the weekend, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a vehicle in Sunrise, Fla. Sunrise is about two hours south of the area. Officers from the Sunrise Police Department found Torres' vehicle on Monday afternoon, said sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers.
