Margaret Lucille Grygny, 93, Vero Beach

Margaret Lucille Grygny, 93, of Vero Beach, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.Mrs. Grygny was born Oct. 9, 1916 in Hawkins, Wisc., and moved to Vero Beach in 1975 from Neenah,  Wis. She worked in the knitting mill of a clothing factory and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach.

Survivors include her daughters Carolyn Cathcart of Vero Beach, Barbara Burst of Waupaca, Wis., sister Marie Ainscough of Brookfield, Ill., brothers William Minks of Waupaca, Wis., Robert Minks of Keenan, Wis., and Elmer Minks of Sioux Falls, Minn., nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Michael Grygny in 1987 and a son Clarie Grygny.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
