Indian River Impact 100 will host a breakfast lecture Monday, Nov. 16 at the Oak Harbor Clubhouse. The event, sponsored by Wilmington Trust, will kick off its second year membership drive. Indian River Impact 100 is a philanthropic group that allows women to pool their resources and make transformational grants of $100,000 to non-profit organizations in Indian River County.
The lecture will feature noted author and speaker Jennifer Read Hawthorne, co-author of several #1 New York Times best sellers, including “Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul” and “Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul.” Ms. Hawthorne will speak on the topic of “Love the Way You Live.”
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the breakfast and speaker at 9 a.m. and a book signing at 10:15. The cost is $20 per person and the reservation deadline is November 10. Valet parking will be offered. Reservations may be made sending a check made payable to IRCF/Impact 100 to P.O. Box 643968, Vero Beach, FL 32964.
Members of Impact 100 have the opportunity to donate $1,000 towards a transformational grant that will grow into a total of $100,000. The donation qualifies each woman as a member. Grants are awarded to a non- profit in Indian River County that can prove the grant will make a significant impact on their organization. The process was rigorous and time consuming with financial reviews, on site visits and formal and detailed applications submitted. At the Annual Meeting in April, 2009, members heard presentations from the organizations that had been chosen as finalists from more than 34 grant applications. Two organizations, Treasure Coast Food Bank – Backpack Buddies and CASTLE/Indian River Family Service Center were awarded $102,500 each as over 200 women joined Impact 100.
Impact 100 is 100% volunteer driven and 100% of the funds go directly to non-profits in our county. Members can chose to volunteer their time, donate to the administrative costs of the organization (which does not allow them to cast a final vote) and can vote at the Annual Meeting or by absentee ballot. “We are reaching out to every woman in our community to join Impact 100,” explained Sherry Brown, the President. “It’s an extraordinary opportunity to give back and, at the same time, learn more about the wonderful work that so many of the non profits in Indian River County perform.”
