VNA sends reminder to get your flu shots

Staff ReportVERO BEACH – The VNA of the Treasure Coast is asking at-risk Indian River County residents to get their regular flu shots.

“While the novel H1N1 has taken the media spotlight, the VNA of the Treasure Coast strongly encourages our community to get their seasonal flu shot this year,” the organization stated in a press release Thursday. “There is still plenty of time to get immunized at one of the many convenient VNA seasonal flu clinics scheduled throughout our community.”

The VNA pointed out in the release that the seasonal flu sends more than 200,000 Americans to the hospital each year and kills more 36,000.

Flu shots are $19 and pneumonia shots are $45. For more information and a list of upcoming clinics, visit the VNA website at www.vnatc.com and click on “Shoo the Flu” or call (772) 567-5760.

VERO BEACH — One patient - a student - remains hospitalized following a deadly two-vehicle wreck that killed 20-year-old rowing team member Grace Rett and injured several others last week, a hospital official said. The unidentified patient - a member of Holy Cross Crusaders women's rowing team - was listed in critical condition, said Tiffany Woods, public relations director for Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce. Victim in bar-beating video released from hospital

VERO BEACH — A 36-year-old man who was beaten unconscious outside a local bar in November and suffered serious injuries has been released from the hospital, according to a state prosecuting attorney. The victim, Steven Ronshaugen, suffered "bleeding on the brain" and a broken eye socket after the 2 a.m. incident Nov. 11 outside of Filthy's Fine Cocktails & Beer, 1238 16th Street, reports show. Ronshaugen was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce. Assistant State Attorney Robyn Stone, who is prosecuting the case, confirmed Ronshaugen was released from the hospital, but could not say when.
