Hector A. Arango, 67, Vero Beach

Hector A. Arango, 67, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach after an extended illness.

Mr. Arango was born June 2, 1942 in Colombia, South America and moved to Vero Beach 3 months ago from Miami.

Prior to his retirement he was a waiter.

Survivors include his son Alejandro Arango of Medellin, Colombia; brothers Carlos Arango of Manhattan, N.Y. and Leon Arango of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters Liria Pisco of Vero Beach; Angela Arbelaez of Pembroke Pines,  and Maria Miller of Massapequa, N.Y.

At the request of the family there will be no services.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. Condolences may be sent through www.seawindsfh.com/obit.php

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
