Indian River unemployment dips slightly, but remains one of highest in state

Staff ReportINDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The good news for Indian River County job seekers is that the job market looks better than it did in September, but the bad news is not by much. Unemployment in the county remained 15.2 percent for the month of September, according to figures put out by the Florida Research and Economic Database.  That figure is a bit better than the 15.4 percent recorded in August. According to the state database, Indian River County has a labor force of 61,145 with 9,312 listed as unemployed.While the County numbers are bleak, Indian River is doing better than some other counties in the state. Hendry County has an unemployed population at 16.8 percent, while Flagler County to the north is at 16.2 percent unemployment.

In St. Lucie County the unemployment figures spiked upward from 14.7 percent in August to 15.3 percent in September.
