VERO BEACH — A man accused of being part of an attack in which the victim was beaten with a wooden pole was apprehended in Georgia and will be transported back to Indian River County, authorities said.

The Vero Beach Police Department announced Monday the arrest of 23-year-old Leviticus Taylor, of 23rd Court, Vero Beach, Monday afternoon in connection to an aggravated battery case from July. Vero Beach Officer John Morrison said in a prepared statement that the victim was attacked by two assailants behind his apartment on 40th Avenue. During the attack, the victim tried to leave the area. At that moment, Taylor struck the victim on the back of the head with a long wooden pole, Morrison said.

Once the victim hit the ground, the suspects fled the scene, according to Morrison.

Authorities attained an arrest warrant for Taylor on the charge of aggravated battery.

He was found on Oct. 10 in Henry County, Georgia, and will be extradited to Indian River County.

Information about the second assailant was not immediately released.
