Florida’s Fishing Traditions video to be presented Oct. 14

SEBASTIAN — Charles H. Bronson, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, will premiere the Florida’s Fishing Traditions: Sebastian documentary video on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Sebastian City Hall, preceding the City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m.  The video showing and the City Council meeting will also be aired locally on Channel 25.

The Florida’s Fishing Traditions: Sebastian documentary video is part of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ campaign to educate the public about Florida’s historical working waterfronts and the commercial fishermen who carry on the fishing legacy today.  Florida’s commercial fishermen annually harvest more than 83 million pounds of quality seafood and fishery products with a dockside value of more than $168 million.  Florida leads the United States in the number of seafood processing businesses with 500.  Another 800 businesses buy and sell seafood as dockside fish buyers, wholesale brokers, importers or exporters.  Retail and restaurant sales of Florida products total $24 billion annually.
