Anglers gather at Sebastian Fishin’ Chics Captain’s Meeting

SEBASTIAN – Anglers gathered to sign up Friday evening for the Sebastian Fishin’ Chics Third Annual In-Shore Fishing Tournament.  The Captain’s Meeting, held alongside the Squid Lips Overwater Grill, was presided over by Indian River County Commissioner Wesley Davis, emcee for the weekend’s event.

The Saturday tournament is in-shore, meaning non-ocean, and areas east of the Indian River County Inlet Bridge and east of the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Ft. Pierce are out of bounds.  But anglers are allowed to fish from anywhere else, including docks, boats, kayaks or bridges.  Adult anglers were going to fish for snook, red fish and trout and juniors were hoping to reel in sheepshead, lady fish and Jack Crevelle.  The group promotes catch and release so fish are brought back to Squid Lips, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., to be weighed-in and released.

Proceeds from the tournament will be split this year among the Pelican Island Preservation Society, Ecumenical Council of Indian River County and a scholarship for a graduating high school senior.

The non-profit Sebastian Fishin’ Chics, was organized to encourage enjoyment of the sport of fishing and to raise awareness of the needs of the environment, waterways and each other.  Throughout the year, the group participates in fundraisers for other organizations, awards scholarships, makes charitable donations and provides clothing and school supplies to those in need.

The events major sponsors included: Dr. Connie Lawrence-Willis, Affordable Water & Coffee Service, AT&T, Beef O’Brady’s Sebastian, Chilberg Construction, Communications International, Jack Regan Masonry, Russell Concrete, Monnett Eye and Laser Surgery Center,    Sebastian Office Supply and Senegence/Pamela Bennett. {igallery 43}
