No decision yet on $1 donations at Royal Palm Pointe Fountain

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach City Council heard a plan Tuesday evening to bring back dollar donations at the Royal Palm Pointe Fountain but made no decision.

Recreation Commission chairwoman Debbie-Kay Whitehouse presented the commission’s recommendation that fountain users be asked to donate $1.

They can “donate if they choose” to do so, Whitehouse said. The fountain would remain free to everyone to use.

City Manager Jim Gabbard told the council that he would work with Parks and Recreation Director Rob Slezak to figure out a way to collect the donations and would report back to the recreation commission and the city council with a suggestion at a later date.

“There’s some bugs to work out,” Gabbard said, adding that he is not sure how the donation collection would work but that he would be willing to give it a try.
