EVENT: Celebrate Estuaries Day

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — What is an Estuary?  Learn about estuaries, including the one in your own backyard-the Indian River Lagoon, as the Florida Atlantic University, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce hosts two September events in honor of National Estuaries Day.Monday, Sept. 21, join Captain Chop Legé and a Harbor Branch scientist for a two-hour pontoon boat cruise on the Indian River, home to more kinds of animals and plants than any other estuary in North America.  Call (772) 465-2400 x 559 for information and reservations.  Space is limited!The events continue on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a  free National Estuaries Day celebration at the Harbor Branch Ocean Discovery Center located directly across from the main gate at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.  This family event will take place from 10 a.m .to 3 p.m. and will feature indoor and outdoor fun and activities including:• “Living Lagoon” Indian River Lagoon marine life displays• Hands-on Water Quality Exploration Station• Harbor Branch Scientist Meet-and-Greet• Eco-Boat tours of the Indian River (cost is $10 per person, space is limited)• Kids’ Arts and Crafts Table• Ocean Discovery Center interactive ocean science exhibits• Lagoon Information tables• Fun and Games, giveaways and prizes.
