Two teen girls missing from Hibiscus Children’s Center in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — The Indian River Sheriff’s Office has issued an alert for officers and residents to be on the lookout for two teenagers who disappeared at approximately 2:30 p.m. from the Hibiscus Children’s Center and Village on 12th Street in Vero Beach.The girls are assumed to have run away from the temporary housing facility for children and teens in crisis. They were last seen traveling east on 12th Street heading away from the center.The first female is 17 years old, is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. She has blonde hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a white shirt and black sweatpants.The second female is 17 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. She has blonde hair, an unknown eye color and was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.Deputy Jeff Luther said this is a common occurrence and that the youths are usually found by officers in a short period of time and returned to the center, but that deputies wish to find them as soon as possible for their safety.Anyone spotting the girls or having information which would lead to finding them should call the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency tip line at (772) 778-0000.
