Updated schedule of City water, sewer and electric rate hearings and meetings

VERO BEACH — The City of Vero Beach has released an updated schedule of meetings related to proposed adjustments in water, sewer and electric rates. City Manager Jim Gabbard said the utility consultant, Public Resources Management Group, requested more time to prepare the documents for the meetings.

Electric Rates –

4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, Resolution to approve sending the electric rates to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for review at the City Council Meeting.

9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 (tentative), First Reading of the Rate Resolution at the City Council Meeting

9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, Public Hearing at the City Council Meeting.All meetings are held in the Council Chambers at City Hall and are open to the public.

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Cold weather shelter opens Tues night

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A local shelter opened its doors for the homeless and needy in anticipation of plunging temperatures Tuesday night, officials said. The Source, a local Christian outreach ministry, provided shelter at its facility, 1015 Commerce Avenue. Guests arrived and registered between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. No one was accepted after 9 p.m. A meal was served Tuesday evening, officials said. Tuesday night had a low temperature near 39 degrees, according to weather meteorologists.
