INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — VeroNews.com placed calls to numerous hardware, grocery and marine retailers on Saturday and the consensus was that local residents are not yet buying hurricane supplies.

Please let us know how seriously you are taking the recent tropical activity and what, if anything you are doing to prepare. 

 

If you are in a wait-and-see mode, when and under what conditions would you begin to make preparations?

Did you have experiences in 2004 with Frances and Jeanne or in 2005 with Wilma that make you more vigilant about storms today? Or were you flooded out by Fay last year and now you take even tropical storms very seriously?

What are your plans if tropical storm Bill, predicted to become a Category 3 hurricane by Friday, threatens Indian River County?

Is this your first hurricane season in Florida? If so, how are you dealing with the prospect of experiencing a storm of some kind this year?

Weekend storms brought 5.32 inches of rain to Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — A front that stalled over southeast Florida brought heavy rain over the weekend, flooding several streets among the coastal towns. Vero Beach had a cumulative total of 5.32 inches of rainfall for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, said Scott Kelly, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Heavy winds from storm knock down Chase Bank sign, topple tree onto vehicle

VERO BEACH — A severe thunderstorm with powerful wind gusts knocked down a Chase Bank sign near Beachland Boulevard Wednesday. The storm also toppled a tree onto a firefighter's personal vehicle, Vero Beach police spokesperson Officer Kelsea Marty said. "No one was inside. (The vehicle) was unoccupied," Marty said. No injuries were immediately reported. Motorists driving along Beachland Boulevard were able to see the damaged Chase Bank sign laying flat on the grassy area in front of the business. The incident where the tree fell on the firefighter's vehicle happened at the fire station near the 1300 block of Old Dixie Highway, Marty said. Most power restored after outages from Monday storm

Update:  FPL crews restored power to most of its customers who experienced power outages from Monday afternoon thunderstorms in Indian River County. As of 11 p.m., less than 30 FPL customers in the county still were without power, according to the FPL power tracker map.
