James Edward Wuthrich, 80, Vero Beach

James Edward Wuthrich, 80, of Vero Beach, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at his residence. He was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Beloit, Wisc.

Mr. Wuthrich is a United States Air Force Veteran and served in Germany, Okinawa, Vietnam, Korea and Japan. He spent 37 years with the National Security Agency and its predecessor organizations as a Cryptanalyst and Mathematician retiring as a Cryptologist in 1984. During his career he was temporarily detailed by his agency to the CIA and DEA. He also served as his agency’s representative to the President’s Critical Intelligence Problems Committee. Mr. Wuthrich was a 50-plus-year Mason, Shriner, Life Member of the VFW and active member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Kay (Bob) Carter, of Cache, Okla., and Sally Ann (Dave) Dunn, of Vero Beach; son, John James (Barbara) Wuthrich, of Severn, Md.; brother, Dan Wuthrich, of Rockton, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margie.

Services will be held at a later date.
