60 pounds of coke discovered washed up at Sebastian Inlet

Staff ReportSEBASTIAN INLET — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office secured approximately 60 pounds of cocaine at the Sebastian Inlet over the weekend. The drugs have a street value of more than $1 million, according to authorities.The Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit was called out to the inlet around 8:30 a.m. Saturday in response to a suspicious package. Marine Deputy Ciro Perrone contacted the Multi-Agency Criminal Enforcement Unit, (M.A.C.E.) which responded and recovered 24 bricks of the narcotic.

 “The public needs to be aware that this product if handled is not only against the law, but extremely dangerous,” said Sheriff’s spokesman Jeff Luther in a prepared statement. “Indian River County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone that comes across illegal drugs or unknown packages to contact the local law enforcement or the United States Coast Guard.”Where the drugs came from and how they got to the inlet were not immediately known.
