Woman identified in Blue Cypress Lake airboat crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The boater killed over the weekend in an airboat crash on Blue Cypress Lake has been identified as Callie E. McKenzie, 27, of West Palm Beach.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said McKenzie was on the airboat with three others when it collided with another airboat. The crash occurred Saturday around 7:15 p.m. in a narrow channel. Among the boaters on McKenzie’s airboat was Sean Murphy, 28, also of West Palm Beach, who sustained serious injuries was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment.

The airboat operator, Jorge Bouza, 29, of Vero Beach, was not injured in the crash, according to FWC. Brooke Rimm-Hewitt, 30, of Delray Beach, sustained unknown injuries.

Those in the second airboat were 17-year-old Jeremy Durling and 16-year-old Caitlin Cole. Neither were injured in the crash.

Blue Cypress Lake is located in West Indian River County, southwest of Fellsmere and east of Yeehaw Junction.No charges have been filed in the case. The investigation continues.
