Cecilia Simpson (Hunter) Marvin, 78, Sebastian

Cecilia Simpson (Hunter) Marvin, 78, of Sebastian, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at Indian River Medical Center. She was born July 25, 1930, in Coatbridge, Scotland, U.K. After attending high school in Coatbridge, Celia attended secretarial school in Glasgow. Upon graduation Celia’s mother and father came to America and settled in the Philadelphia area.

She volunteered at the Arthritis Association of Vero Beach, was volunteer secretary to the Sebastian Chamber of Commerce and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Vero Beach. Early employment included secretarial work with the main buyer for Woolworth’s in center city Philadelphia and Nice Ball Behring Co. in Philadelphia. After the death of her first husband, Celia was 28 when she went back to work as secretary to the faculty of Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science and to the School of Business Administration, both of Philadelphia University. She was executive secretary to the president and to the dean of academic affairs of Arcadia College, formerly Beaver College, Glenside, Pa., prior to retiring from Pennsylvania College of Straight Chiropractic, Horsham.

Mrs. Marvin was a member of the Literary Council, American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels, all of Horsham.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Gerald L. Marvin, Jr.; two sons, Bryan S. Marvin and Glenn H. Marvin, both of Horsham; two step-sons, Mark G. Marvin, of Kimberly, Idaho, and Todd R. Marvin, of Philadelphia; brother, Thomas Hunter, of Hatboro, Pa.; sister, Morag Hunter Jones, of Hatboro; and 13 grandchildren. Mrs. Marvin was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred Sharkie.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30, at First Presbyterian Church, Vero Beach. Donations may be made to The Dr. Fred W. McClellan Memorial Garden, First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach, FL 32960, or to Habitat for Humanity, 2209 18th Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960, in memory of Mrs. Marvin.
