Child dies in crash on 27th Ave SW

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An unidentified child has died as the result of injuries sustained in a crash on 27th Avenue SW earlier today.The Indian River County Fire Department responded to a call of a two-vehicle accident with injuries, removed four people from a vehicle and called in helicopters to transport two of the injured, children ages 4 and 8, but it is not clear which of the children survived the crash. Reports on the police scanner noted that a pickup truck had been partially submerged in a ditch on the side of the road. No further details are known at this time and the identity of the child has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Mother charged in DUI crash that left her and daughter seriously hurt

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A woman who deputies said drove at a high speed while intoxicated before crashing the vehicle in a ditch - seriously injuring herself along with her daughter - was jailed last week. The 5-year-old girl had to undergo surgery for a fractured left femur, reports show. Alondra Daniela Castro Rios, 24, of the 300 block of 8th Avenue, Vero Beach, was charged with DUI seriously bodily injury to another and DUI with person under 18 in the vehicle. Clearwater police ID victims in Thursday fatal plane crash

CLEARWATER — Police identified a Melbourne Beach man as the pilot of a plane that experienced an engine failure before crashing into a mobile home unit late Thursday, killing three people. The impact killed the man along with two women who were in the residence. Officers also released the identities of the women. The Beechcraft Bonanza V35 aircraft took off from Vero Beach Regional Airport and crashed in Clearwater, aviation officials said. Clearwater police identified the pilot as 54-year-old Jemin Patel. Police identified the women as 86-year-old Martha Parry, who lived at the Bayside Waters manufactured home community, and 54-year-old Mary Ellen Pender, of Treasure Island. Man walking on tracks struck by Brightline in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man walking on the railroad tracks was struck and killed by a 110-mph northbound Brightline train late Monday, sheriff's officials said. This is the first fatality involving Brightline to occur in Indian River County, sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jaworski said. "At 9:59 p.m., a conductor with Brightline called into 911 stating that the train struck a pedestrian trespassing on the tracks," Jaworski said. Sheriff's officials identified the man as 29-year-old Wesley Alan Ducheneaux. The crash occurred directly east of the 1800 block of Old Dixie Highway Southwest in south county. Sheriff's deputies and Indian River County Fire Rescue found Ducheneaux's body about 300 yards north of the railroad crossing at Highland Drive Southeast, Jaworski said. ...
